Niagra Falls, Kings of Leon & America

Wednesday morning we woke up real early at cousin Pam's and hit the road for Niagara Falls.

Nicole and I both agreed that it was an amazing sight - and a testimony to the awesomeness of Mother Nature - but not necessarily one of the romance capitals of the world. It was pretty cool though. Words can't really do it justice:

After experiencing the falls, we hit the road for the United States of America. Our goal was Cleveland, OH where we would be spending a day filled with 110% rock n roll.

After checking into our hotel, we went to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, where we spent close to two and a half hours taking it all in. There were SIX floors of exhibits, artifacts, stage props, you name it. It was absolutely amazing. To see some of the first electric guitars ever made by Les Paul, to some original costumes worn by everyone from David Bowie to the Four Tops to Michael Jackson, Elvis, Mick Jagger (the list seriously goes on forever), to experiencing the interactive exhibits (like one awesome one called Video Killed The Radio Star which looked like something out of a movie about the future), to seeing some of the original stage props from Pink Floyd's The Wall tour and the hand written lyrics for some Bruce Springsteen songs...wow. My brain was about to burst from over-stimulation. Though we only spent two + hours in the Hall, the pamphlet says you could spend 5-6 hours there. No doubt. I could have spent 5-6 days.

For supper, we continued with the theme and went to the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Cleveland. It was pretty neat, and the food wasn't bad. The had some sweet guitars mounted on the walls. Bonus.

After supper, we walked down the street to the Time-Warner Cable Amphitheater to see Kings of Leon. I was actually surprised at how many people were there. The venue is like an enclosed version of Dartmouth's Alderney Landing, and by the time Kings of Leon played, the place was pretty near full. They played the songs both Nicole and I wanted to hear (Nicole: "On Call," Trevor: "Use Somebody," Both: "Closer & Knocked Up") - not to mention that they played for close to an hour and a half, ending their set with a 4-song encore. The only song I expected them to play and didn't was "King of the Rodeo"

This is the entire set list:
Crawl
Taper Jean Girl
My Party
Be Somebody
Molly's Chambers

Four Kicks

Sex on Fire

Needless to say, we had an amazing time.

Yesterday was a long day - we drove from Cleveland to Rockford, Illinois - about an hour outside of Chicago. We didn't do a whole lot except drive BUT - on the advice of Malizza and Regan - we did go to an all-American restaurant called Cracker Barrel. Let me tell you. It was friggen American! Not only did we have a huge fat-filled meal that could have given bears heart-attacks, but in the country store next door you could buy both the new Dolly Parton CD and tshirts with Eagles and American flags on them. I really want to find either a picture or a doll of Jesus with draped in an American flag before we leave. Anyways, back to the food. For $9.00, I had Chicken-Fried Steak (think shake-n-bake deep fried steak), hashbrown casserole, dumplings, corn bread muffins and fried apples. For the same price, Nicole had Chicken-Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, coleslaw and the best buttermilk biscuits I think I've ever eaten. Here is a picture of how much food this actually was:

When we got to Rockford, we checked in at a hotel and went to Walmart - yep Walmart - to buy some beer.

Today, we are driving to Minneapolis for our last US stop before we head back to Canada.

Video Blogs will be up soon.
